Last week, Sr. Germaine took charge and led a group of teachers and over 40 students to Trenton to take an active stand by participating in a rally and speaking out in support of the proposed school voucher bill. In a Star Ledger report on education, it was explained that “the bill, co-sponsored by Lesniak, a Democrat, and Sen. Tom Kean, a Republican, would establish a pilot program to deliver vouchers to as many as 20,000 kids within five years. The bill to establish a school voucher program (for low income families) in New Jersey was passed with a unanimous vote. The State House in Trenton for a rally demanding state lawmakers provide disadvantaged families with the opportunity to have access to school vouchers.” While this is only the first step in the complex legislative process, it is an encouraging one for our children. The Mission Statement of Benedictine Academy proclaims that we are a college-preparatory school for students of all economic backgrounds.
