Rev. Luke Davis Street Naming

Sister Germaine Fritz, OSB, President and Kenneth Jennings, Principal, of BA joined Mrs. Addie Davis, her daughter Ericka, along with family and friends at the recent street renaming dedication ceremony for her husband, Bishop Luke Davis on Sunday August 8 10:00 at Greater Harvest Baptist Church (13Ave and 15thSt). The Rev. Luke Davis of Newark’s Greater Harvest Baptist Church was a dear friend of Benedictine Academy and father to our graduate, Ericka. He was a man of deep faith and wisdom serving on BA's Board of Trustees, as Chaplain to the local police force, as well as Shepherd of the Greater Harvest Baptist Church. Rev. Luke Davis Street stands alongside the street of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., two great men of God in our lives. How blessed are we at Benedictine Academy to have listened with the ear of our hearts and walked with our beloved Bishop Luke Davis, a man full of God's grace.

His Grace

We were excited to be present when His Grace, The Most Reverend Archbishop John J. Myers, Archbishop of our Roman Catholic Newark Archdiocese, joined His Beatitude Mar Ignatius Yousef III Younan, the Syriac Catholic Patriarch, to enthrone Mar Barnabas Yousif Habash as the new bishop of Our Lady of Deliverance Syrias Catholic Diocese in Bayonne, New Jersey last Saturday afternoon. It was a moving experience to be amidst so many Holy Leaders of the Church gathered together for such a momentous occasion.

We are waiting with enthusiasm for when His Grace, The Most Reverend Archbishop John J. Myers, visits Benedictine Academy on September 15 to bless the dedication of our brand new, interactive science lab, offering one of the most innovative and advanced means of science study available to high school students.

S.O.S. - HELP WANTED

An S.O.S. was sent out from the Elizabeth Coalition of the Homeless for new school backpacks for their "little guests".

Do you remember how excited you were when you were young and ready to begin school with your new notebooks and pencils? We do.

So when our Campus Ministers heard the call, they responded. New backpacks, notebooks, pencil cases, pens & pencils, and gluesticks were gathered, assembled and delivered!

As Mother Teresa said, "Doing small things with great love" is our way of "doing something beautiful for God!"
